Default Vauxhall lads doing it in style......

PROPER engine failure from the Purple corsa that won TOTB a couple of years ago.

The ally bit you can see with the whole in it, is the gearbox bellhousing which got fucked too when the crank snapped!

8750rpm limiter + 2 years of running lots of 11s = fucked crank, lol

That was on a new uprated crank too, not an old standard one.

Yeah they did a standard one a couple of years ago, so moved onto this one, which is basically a motorsport special but still a cast one, available new from vauxhall if you can track one down.

Next step from this is a DK one for a couple of grand, not sure if they will go that route or not.

The one they broke is the same as the one in my nova engine, so its not nice for me to see it snapped!

Arse! Good effort though. Remember seeing it on MIG a few years ago and most people agreeing that it was one of the only crank failures they'd seen on an XE/LET...

Yeah the cranks are reasonably good, although even the uprate one I suspect isnt up to the standard of a YB crank.

Although obviously with the longer stroke, the piston speeds involved were actually higher than a YB would be at 9K!

Im planning on setting the limiter at 8250, crank is my main worry, solid lifters and springs etc that I have are quite happy at 9K.

Im hoping for 500bhp, and will be attempting to limit the torque to around 350lbft or so, although I failed to get it that low on Rob's and he has a smaller turbo than me.

Its a cunt with these engines, they just love making torque, Robs made 352lbft at only just over a bar of boost.

Hopefully, think they'll probably go for a standard crank again now though due to the costs and difficulty getting hold of another XER one.

Bit of a shitter if they have to start to "life" the cranks!

Yeah a whole new motor, think they can use the head again though, minus a couple of valves.
Not sure on value, few thousands not few hundreds though.

They have located a billet steel crank and another set of steel rods apparently, so hopefully be better still next time, perhaps they will even rev it a bit further now, lol

bx is 300 plus a 500 diff which sould be ok.

Engine was a xer crank at 400, some 200 quid steel rods, 4-500 in omega pistons, a 200 head gasket usual bottom end gaskets, oil pump, replacement block and sump.

think the head was on oversize inlets. beyond that, mnifolds etc will be fine.

They have a shedload of spares and a lot of friends tho!

so i take it it's not a chemical metal job just to get it home then

it sounds fairly impressive whatever happened, but where did the crank snap then?

it would sound ilke it's broken properly as opposed to snapped the nose off like martins and rods did

Unfortunate, but it happens when they are pushing the boundaries as far as they do.

How many miles has the engine been doing those numbers, Ie quarter mile times and revs???
